What is DiaBuddies?

DiaBuddies supports children living with type 1 diabetes and their parents and carers to feel connected, confident and part of a community.

When your child is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus, it’s normal to feel different, afraid and worried. DiaBuddies offers fun events, informative educational sessions and a safe space to connect with other families on the journey with a child living with type 1 diabetes.

You don’t have to deal with your child’s diagnosis on your own. Managing type 1 diabetes in children is much easier when you have a strong support system.

DiaBuddies Online event – Parents and Carers: 

Unpacking big emotions on the journey with type 1 diabetes with special guest Angie Manzke

Joining us this session will be special guest Angie Manzke - psychotherapist and founder of Reflective Haven, a counselling service specialising in type 1 diabetes. Angie will help us understand emotional triggers and share practical tips that can support the whole family’s emotional well-being, along with a credentialled diabetes educator who will join us. You will also have the opportunity to ask the panel questions and share your experiences.

This event is for parents and carers of children with type 1 diabetes.

Paint like an artist

Painting can be a great way to unwind and express your creativity. If you have always wanted to discover your inner artist, then join us for a live interactive painting session with award winning Australian artist Anne Smerdon from The Artory.

Have fun learning techniques and tricks professional artists use to create your very own one of a kind masterpiece.

Siblings, parents and carers are all welcome to join in the fun.

Science Christmas Spectacular with Fizzics Education

Join Fizzics Education for a Science Christmas Show like no other! This session will be coordinated by Fizzics Education who will be running a live interactive online science workshop! Celebrate the end of the year with fun Christmas themed science experiments like making tinsel fly with static electricity, creating instant snow, using the vortex machine to craft halo rings and more!

Siblings, parents and carers are all welcome to join in the fun.

Type 1 Nurturing Parents and Carers Program

Most parents and carers have never had counselling support for the emotions associated with the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes for their child. This program aims to create a safe space to seek counselling and help explore your feelings and experiences.

DiaBuddies has teamed up with Reflective Haven, a private counselling practice specialising in diabetes support. Available until Wednesday 30 November 2022.
